„broken sound“ startete 2009 als Konzertreihe für Geräuschmusik, Experimentalelektronik und Noise – benannt nach einem Stück des schwedischen Avantgarde-Komponisten Sten Hanson (der beim Auftaktkonzert live performte). Mit Sten Hansons Tod im Winter 2013 geht „broken sound“ mit der 17. Ausgabe zu Ende – der Kreis schliest sich. Zum großen Finale wird das Thema „Ambient“ noch einmal aus verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchtet. Der Altmeister Thomas Köner lässt seine bassig-abstrakten, fragilen Landschaften entstehen und untermalt diese mit entschleunigten Bildern. Der Brite Jonathan Coleclough geht von konkreten Klängen und Feldgeräuschen aus, um einen bizarren Soundscape in Echtzeit entstehen zu lassen. Und mit dem französschen Projekt Kassel Jaeger kommt eine unserer Entdeckungen erstmals nach Köln. Rituelle Akusmatik könnte das Schlagwort sein. Dunkel fiebrige Klänge werden im Raum platziert, die Finesse des GRM Klangregisseurs, der Kassel Jaeger im echten Leben ist, schlägt in seinen Drone-Improv-Performances zu Buche. Ein dunkler Abschied….
„broken sound“ wird kuratiert von Till Kniola/aufabwegen und gefördert durch das Kulturamt der Stadt Köln und das Ministerium für Familie, Kinder, Jugend, Kultur und Sport des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.

THOMAS KÖNER
Thomas Köner, geboren 1965 in Dortmund, arbeitet als Medienkünstler mit Musik, Video, Hörspiel und Installationen. Weltweite Präsentationen in Museen (Louvre, Walker Art Center, Centre Pompidou) und auf Festivals (Biennale Venedig, Sonar Barcelona).
2004 erhielt er die „Goldene Nica“ (Prix Ars Electronica).
CD-Veröffentlichungen auf Touch und MillePlateaux.
Kollaborationsprojekte u.a. mit Ulrich Krieger, Jürgen Reble, Asmus Tietchens (als Kontakt der Jünglinge) und Andy Mellweg (als Porter Ricks).

JONATHAN COLECLOUGH
Jonathan Coleclough is a composer who transforms the delicate sounds of everyday objects into mysterious and sensuous music. Starting from raw sounds as diverse as water boiling on a stove, sheep bells ringing on a remote hillside or pins dropping onto the floor, he creates music of richly textured drones and fragile details. Sometimes the music is far removed from the original sources, at other times it exposes and explores fine details of the sounds.
In solo performance this process of transformation of the everyday is made explicit by live video projections that show close-up details of him using the objects that serve as his instruments: a sheet of glass, a burning sparkler, a metal bowl, a melting ice cube.
He also makes sound installations which offer listeners an opportunity to explore a created sound world at their own pace. These installations incorporate sound material from the environment where they are located.
He has performed in the UK, Europe, Australia, USA and Japan.
In 2012 Jonathan was a guest member of The Sonic Catering Band on their Food Science CD release ( http://www.soniccatering.com/ ), and was also one of many contributors to the soundtrack of director Peter Strickland’s well-received ‘Berberian Sound Studio’ feature film ( http://warp.net/films/berberian-sound-studio & http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/aug/30/berberian-sound-studio-review ). Jonathan is currently preparing new and archival releases for his own October Editions label ( http://www.coleclough.plus.com/ ), and slowly completing a piece of music based on samples of flute playing by Theo Travis ( http://www.theotravis.com/ ).

Kassel Jaeger is a swiss-french composer and theoretician. He’s a member of the Groupes de Recherches Musicales in Paris, France.
His works are released by Editions Mego, Senufo Editions and Unfathomless.
