broken sound #12 : Touch30 presents…
A festival celebrating 30 years of TOUCH:
BJ NILSEN (live)
ACHIM MOHNÉ (live)
THE ASH INTERNATIONAL SOUND SYSTEM (DJ Set)
MIKE HARDING (lecture on TOUCH)
Studio 672/Stadtgarten
TOUCH 30 presents….
Ein Festival zu Ehren des britischen Experimental-Labels Touch (London, UK)
Touch – www.touchmusic.org.uk
In 2012, Touch celebrates its 30th year… Since its first release in 1982, Touch has created sonic and visual productions that combine innovation with a level of care and attention that has made it the most enduring of any independent music company of its time.
THE ASH INTERNATIONAL SOUND SYSTEM – www.ashinternational.com
Ash International has been perceived as the R&D section of Touch, and this is indeed partly true… but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Ash International was unleashed onto an unsuspecting world in early 1993 – electronic communications, radio emissions and other natural frequencies are an endless source of material for their releases… No stone is left unturned, with studies of EVP, wax cylinder and CD, and other unknown sound source recordings all part of the „label“’s remit. Its an audio experiment which dovetails into the history of sound recording and beyond…

ACHIM MOHNÉ
Achim Mohné studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, and started working with record players and other „sound-media-apparatus“ in the mid ’90’s. He experiments with the space and time intervals of sound-media and is especially interested in the „music that lies hidden in the medium itself“. He subjects the support material to a forensic autopsy, for example, by analysing the dust particles inside an ending vinyl groove. Achim composes records (but one will not hear any reproduced music) to a music that comes out of the medium. Using a triple vinyl deck set-up, his analytic auditory observations of ending grooves – all grooves sound different, depending on how dust has effected and transformed the soft surface of the vinyl – convert tiny dust particles into a „sound sculpture“.
