UK ambient pioneers O Yuki Conjugate release Tropic, their first new album since 2009.
Tropic is a reworking of lost, forgotten and unreleased O Yuki Conjugate (OYC) tracks recorded in London in 1994-95, with processing and post-rationalisation completed during 2015-16. The album explores a sonic territory area OYC have christened “dirty ambient” – multi layered, hyper textural and distinctly gritty. Release on limited edition vinyl album and CD format, Tropic comprises two
24-minute tracks: The Fate of Less Valuable Animals and Darkness was Here Yesterday. It is intended as a companion album to the band’s Equator release from the mid 1990s.
All Tropic tracks written by A.Hulme, R.Horberry, M. McGeorge, P. A. Woodhead and D. Mudford, with saxophone provided by J. Gardiner. Tropic’s sleeve is designed by Adrian Harrison and features an original painting by actor Frederick Schimmelschmidt. The album was mastered by Detlef Funder (Konrad Kraft).
About O Yuki Conjugate
Formed in Nottingham in 1982 on the wave of post-industrial music that emerged out of Post Punk, OYC are now in their 35th year and 4th incarnation, based around core members Andrew Hulme and Roger Horberry. OYC forged their own path away from their early industrial and electronic influences to incorporate the then-unfashionable ‘ambient’ music into their own sound. Largely ignored in the UK, they found audiences in the US and Europe more receptive. OYC have released eight albums of difficult ambient-influenced music that together have earned them literally hundreds of pounds:
Scene in Mirage 1984, Into Dark Water 1987, Peyote 1991, Equator 1995, Primitive 1996, The Euphoria of Disobedience 2006, OYC 25 2009, Ambiguism 2010 (vinyl box set retrospective). Full discography:

As well as completing Tropic, OYC recently worked with US filmmaking group Lullskull to provide a soundtrack for their web series Northbound, as well as contributing two tracks to Close to the Noise Floor, a four-disc box set compilation of pioneering early 80’s electronica released by Cherry Red Records.
